PrestaShop B2B: wholesale registration and account approval explained

Business registration, account approval, customer groups and AADE/VIES VAT checks. What does a PrestaShop wholesale operation actually need?

B2B involves more than hiding prices

Wholesale operators need to know who is requesting catalogue access and on which terms. The process starts before the first order: partner application, data review, approval and appropriate customer access.

PrestaShop has built-in customers and groups, but the complete B2B flow depends on each company’s commercial policy and its choice of extensions or custom development.

Applications and administrator approval

Prospective partners should be able to submit their business and tax details through a clear application form. Requests need a traceable status and an administrator review rather than being scattered across emails.

A valid VAT number does not automatically make an applicant an approved trading partner. That decision belongs to the business administrator.

Why AADE and VIES checks matter

Greek business tax details can be validated through AADE services, while intra-EU VAT numbers can be checked through VIES, subject to the external services being available and returning a usable response.

Validation helps reduce incorrect data and manual checks. It does not replace accounting, legal or tax judgement when there is a mismatch or an external system is unavailable.

Customer groups and wholesale pricing are separate layers

Once approved, a partner can be assigned to an appropriate PrestaShop customer group. This supports a clear onboarding and customer-management process.

However, B2B registration is not the same product as advanced price lists, discounts, order rules or hiding prices from guests. Those requirements must be scoped and implemented separately.

What the i-2 B2B Registration module includes

i-2 B2B Registration manages partner applications, AADE checks for Greek tax IDs, VIES checks for intra-EU VAT, administrator approvals and PrestaShop customer group assignment.

The published module price is €69 before tax for one installation/domain. Optional i-2 installation costs an additional €39 before tax. Compatibility and any bespoke requirements should be confirmed before deployment.

What a real wholesale implementation teaches us

Steam Train is an example of a PrestaShop platform organised around approved professionals and controlled access to pricing. It highlights why customer onboarding and commercial access must work together.

A client’s entire bespoke B2B setup should not be confused with the feature list of one ready-made module. The first step is to define what your wholesale workflow actually needs.
